Vortex mixer

The Vortex mixer is designed to mix difficult to blend materials
over a range of viscosities. Materials including prepolymer
resins, curatives, powdered additives, and epoxy systems are thoroughly mixed effectively and quickly. The centrifugal force
created by spinning the material in two opposite axis' simulta
neously produces a high shear blending effect, thus mixing the materials inside the pail.

Compared to conventional hand mixing methods such as drills,
or impeller type mixers, the Vortex mixer will give you an effective
mix in fraction of the time without introducing any bubbles into
mixed material.

Principles of Operation The Vortex mixer blends the liquids by
rotating the pail containing the material in two axis' simultane
ously in opposite directions at very high RPM.

The main vertical rotationg axis will force the liquids to the far
side of the pail while the second counter rotation will create
a vortex motion within the liquids which facilitates the rapid
mixing of the materials. Through this vortex motion, raw
materials with very high or low viscosity can be mixed very
effectively. Off-the-shelf, one-gallon plastic pails with snap
on lids contain the material during mixing.

To operate, simply pour all the raw material components to be
mixed into the pail, snap shut the lid, place the pail into the aluminum pail holder and press the start button. Both the
speed and duration of the mix is pre-adjustable in the system
and are set according to the viscosity, temperature, and types
of materials being mixed. Most materials are completely mixed
within 30 to 60 seconds.

Vortex Mixer construction Contains a high horse power
motor, suspended in a custom designed cradle system. The
motor provides the bucket with its required rotation in both
axis'. A kevlar belt assembly trans-forms the vertical rotation
of the base to the second opposite rotational axis. Prior to
mixing, a counter weight system is dialed according to the
amount of material poured in the pail. Up to 6 pounds of
material can be mixed in one shot with this machine.

The drive system of the Vortex mixer consists of a 3-phase            208-240 V motor with a variable frequency motor driver and a            dynamic break system. It also contains a timer that            automatically activates the dynamic break system to bring the            machine to a halt very rapidly.
Due to high forces produced by this machine, this unit has to            be bolted permanently to a concrete floor.
